Quitting is Power

This year, I am celebrating 8 years of entrepreneurship, independence, motivation, growth, leadership, impact and resiliency. 8 years ago, I founded Growth Street .

Social media can make it look like it’s all unicorns and rainbows. But unicorns aren’t real and rainbows don’t last. The reality is much more difficult, and much less glamorous.

Taking the Plunge

I had the entrepreneurial itch for years but I was too afraid to take the plunge and just do it. After climbing the ladder for Fortune 500 companies, breaking the glass ceiling, trying to make Corporate America more impactful and running start-ups, I needed something different.

My career taught me that I love building high-performing teams, growing brand-led businesses, listening to customers, and solving big meaty problems. What better way to combine these things than building my own growth consulting startup?

In December of 2012, I quit my job as a start-up CMO. It was terrifying and exhilarating all at the same time. I was in the middle of a divorce, had two little kids and decided it was time.

Quitting is Power

I hung a virtual shingle in Jan 2013 and a star was born. To honor that, I’m starting a series on the eight greatest lessons I learned through my career — the “Great Eight.” Lesson No.1? QUITTING IS POWER.

Quitting something that’s not making you better is powerful. It challenged me to go after what I wanted — closing a door to open a new door to something MORE IMPACTFUL.

Giddy up!
