Great 8 Lessons, Pivot

THE GREAT EIGHT: Lesson #6 – Pivot Faster

Pivot Faster

The most common question on my mind during any given work week: “What should I do now?”

If only we had all the answers! Running a business is all about learning on the fly and not always knowing where to go. But if the only constant is change, why does it sometimes take so long to actually make a change?

Answer: Because it’s really tough to figure out what to do and where to go. But if running a business teaches you anything, it’s that you always have to be ready to change – and FAST.

Trust Your Gut

When something isn’t working, you know it. Whether you have the data or not, your intuition speaks louder than a spreadsheet. But if you can’t back things up with numbers, then what? Do you bury your head in the sand and hope for the best? Refute the reality of what your customers are telling you (or not telling you)? Do you keep throwing spaghetti against the wall until, eventually, something sticks? Ask your 100 yr old grandmother to say a novena for you (disclaimer: I may or may not have done this before)?

LESSON #6: PIVOT FASTER

Part of why this lesson is so hard is because you need to be the one to drive change, pivot faster, and make things happen. Your prospects will not wait for you to tell them how you’ll solve their problems. The market will not wait for you to create your unique position and stand out. And your customers will not wait for you stand for something and serve them better.

The Bottom Line

However agile your business is, there’s always room for you to improve. Lean in, move around, listen, learn, anticipate, move, change, and pivot faster. In the business world, you’re either swimming or dying. So live like a shark.

Giddy up!
